John Power

John J Power M Phil; M Sc; BA (Hons); Cert Mang; Cert Ed; RGN

With some early background in law as a legal executive, John went on to study Social Sciences as an undergraduate. Having completed university John then began to train as a general nurse completing his training in the late 1980’s. He then nursed in theaters, ear nose and throat, medicine, general surgery and urology. John was also teaching on a ‘sessional’ basis. He then took up post as Deputy Charge Nurse in an acute medical and cardiology unit in the Scottish Highlands and then as Senior Charge Nurse at a general Community Hospital. He then went on to manage hospital and community nursing services in Sutherland, Scottish Highlands. John then returned to teaching and is currently in post as a university Teaching Fellow in N. Ireland. John co-ordinates the undergraduate teaching of social psychology and public health. He also teaches research methods.

Undergraduate studies included the social sciences and psychology and as a post graduate John studied Social Biology; Medical Anthropology ;Child and Adolescent Social Psychology and Research. As time permits, John remains clinically active as a professional nurse within the areas of acute medicine, cardiology; hematology and oncology.

John’s own areas of research include conflict studies; spirituality holism and health; family resilience and eating disorders.

John remains an active sportsman and helps to co-ordinate the running team for his university school.
