Meditation gives even very young children, power over their thinking and emotions using enhanced self-understanding and self-acceptance. It is a gentle and effective means of overcoming a wide variety of psychological and behavioral problems, such as anxiety, hyperactivity and aggression.
Meditation can provide the following benefits to any child:
- Physical relaxation
- Improved concentration
- Improved listening skills
- Increased ability to deal with stress
- Improved awareness
- Improved creativity
- Reduced anger/impulsivity
- Improved interaction
- Improved sleep
- Improved achievement
Such a broad spectrum of benefits highlight the significant potential of meditation as a cost effective form of school based mental health promotion.
We have completed a number of voluntary projects for children in schools situated in areas of deprivation, as well as Pupil Referral Unit’s, with very positive outcomes. A significant proportion reported that the experience of meditation at school had prompted them to meditate outside school, particularly at times of stress.
We are currently seeking funds to carry out further larger extended projects and independent research evaluation of the outcomes.
